Sleepy heads, that’s what we were when we left our houses in the early morning of a rainy day, direction Dublin.
We arrived at the Irish airport around midday and met our host families about an hour after.
Typical cheerless Irish weather: humid, sunny, suddenly cloudy and rainy and then the sun comes up again; way colder than what you might be used to in Rapallo, but still likable once you know how to dress properly.
Everyone was very welcoming, from the host families to the people we met in the buses, in the streets, in the shops, at school, etc.
The city was something spectacular, but not at first sight.
Let me explain.
The architecture was ordinary, nothing new if you have already visited other cities, but it had so many different styles put together, even in the same building, that made it look fascinating.
We walked, a lot.
Each morning, except for the weekend, we had to go to school. A very welcoming place where we got divided in groups based on our English level and then had lesson separately with different English teachers. We revised  grammar, learned new words and expressions and we also managed to practice pronunciation and conversation.
Right after class we went to visit what  had been  programmed: Howth Seaside Village with its market, Dublinia, St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Archeology Museum and the wonderful library of the Trinity College.
But the most beautiful trip was the one at the Cliffs of Moher. We got on a coach and drove coast to coast through small villages and wide prairies as far as this fantastic place, where we managed to get on a boat and admire the cliffs from the sea: breathtaking!
After that, on our way “home”, we stopped in Galway where we relaxed for an hour and then we all got back to our host families.
It was exhausting but it was a great adventure that I would do over and over again.

All'alba di una piovosa giornata, ancora assonnati, abbiamo lasciato le nostre case, direzione Dublino.
Siamo arrivati all'aeroporto irlandese intorno a mezzogiorno e abbiamo incontrato le nostre host families dopo circa un'ora.
Tipico cupo clima irlandese: umido, soleggiato, improvvisamente nuvoloso con qualche precipitazione e poi  di nuovo il sole; molto più freddo di quello a cui si è abituati a Rapallo ma gradevole, una volta capito come vestirsi.
Le persone erano tutte molto accoglienti, dalle host families alle persone che abbiamo incontrato nei bus, nelle strade, nei negozi, ecc.
La città era un qualcosa di spettacolare, ma non a prima vista.
Lasciatemi spiegare.
Architettura  ordinaria, niente di nuovo se si sono  già visitate altre città in giro per il mondo, ma aveva così tanti stili diversi, anche nello stesso edificio, che la rendevano affascinante.
Abbiamo camminato, molto.
Ogni mattina, ad eccezione del fine settimana, siamo andati a lezione nella nostra scuola. Un posto molto accogliente, dove siamo stati divisi in gruppi sulla base del nostro livello di Inglese e poi collocati in aule dove abbiamo avuto lezione con differenti insegnanti di Inglese. Abbiamo ripassato la grammatica, imparato nuovi vocaboli ed espressioni e siamo anche riusciti ad esercitare la nostra pronuncia e abilità nel conversare.
Subito dopo le lezioni siamo andati a visitare ciò che era stato programmato: il villaggio sul mare di Howth con il suo mercato, Dublinia, la Cattedrale di San Patrizio, il museo archeologico e la bellissima Biblioteca del Trinity College.
Ma la gita più entusiasmante è stata alle scogliere di Moher. Abbiamo preso un pullman e guidato da costa a costa attraverso piccoli villaggi e vaste praterie sino a questo fantastico posto dove siamo saliti su una piccola barca e abbiamo potuto ammirare le scogliere dal mare: spettacolare!
Poi,  sulla strada verso “casa”, ci siamo fermati a Galway dove ci siamo rilassati per un'oretta e siamo tutti ripartiti per tornare dalle nostre host families.
E' stata un'avventura stancante, ma anche fantastica, e la rifarei mille volte!
